These powerful handheld saws are regularly used in demolition and renovation projects for quickly cutting through materials. They are called reciprocating saws because of the back-and-forth sawing motion they use to cut.

What Are Reciprocating Saws Used For?

Reciprocating saws (or recip saws for short) can be used to cut through a wide range of materials, including timber, aerated concrete blocks and steel pipes, nails or screws. While their primary purpose is sawing, they are frequently used as demolition tools thanks to their ability to cut through and rip out hard materials quickly and efficiently. If you’re taking on a renovation project, invest in a reciprocating saw.

Which Are the Most Commonly Used Reciprocating Saws?

Cordless saws allow for working on the move or at height without worrying about cables. However, corded saws can have more power, which may be required for heavy-duty demolition sawing of aerated concrete or steel. Other types of reciprocating saw include compact, pneumatic, plumbing and HVAC saws. When choosing a reciprocating saw, look for features such as quick release blade systems, and consider their weight, power and speed settings. Popular manufacturers of reciprocating saws include DeWalt, Makita, Draper, Bosch, Bauker and Einhell. All of these brands are available at Toolstation for affordable prices.
