Achieve a smooth finish on plastered walls and ceilings with a drywall sander. Drywall sanders are much quicker, easier and cleaner than sanding by hand. There are several different types of drywall sanders. These include compact drywall sanders and longneck sanders, available in various lengths with a range of sanding heads. Longneck sanders are ideal for smoothing hard-to-reach areas without ladders or scaffolding. At Toolstation, you’ll find drywall sanders from trusted brands such as Vitrex, Scheppach, Festool and Einhell Classic.

Ceiling and Wall Sanding Machine

Try a longneck sander for walls and ceilings, as these tools are designed with an even balance and weight for sustained working at height. Choose a model with an interchangeable head for hard to reach corners and edges. Devices with integrated suction and dust bags can safely remove any fine powder created during the sanding process.

FAQs

What is a drywall sander and when should I use one?

A drywall sander is a powered tool designed to smooth plaster, plasterboard joints or tiled surfaces on walls and ceilings much faster than manual sanding. It’s the perfect tool for renovating, prepping surfaces or finishing large-area jobs.

Can a wall sander also be used on ceilings?

Yes , many wall sanders (especially long-neck or telescopic models) are built for both walls and ceilings. The longer reach means you avoid ladders or scaffolding for overhead tasks.

What sanding pad size and grit should I pick?

For general wall/ceiling smoothing, a 225 mm pad size is common (see many models). Start with coarser grit for filling or plaster build-up (e.g., P60-P80) and finish with finer grit (e.g., P120-P150) for painting or decorating.

Can a drywall sander be used for removing paint or wallpaper residue?

Yes. Many drywall sanders are built to handle tasks such as removing loose plaster, paint or wallpaper residues on walls and ceilings.
