Drill bits and sets are essential cutting accessories designed for boring precise holes into masonry, metal, wood, and plastic. Using the correct bit for the substrate ensures clean finishes and prevents tool damage - helping you complete installations and fixings more efficiently.

High-speed steel (HSS) and cobalt drill bits for metal provide the heat resistance needed for tough alloys, letting you cut through stainless steel and cast iron without blunting the cutting edge. For heavy-duty building work, masonry and SDS bits are built to take the heavy pounding needed to drill into concrete and brick, clearing away dust and rubble quickly.

Drill Bit Sets

Our range of professional masonry drill bit sets includes the Milwaukee SDS plus masonry drill bit, with a reinforced flute for dust removal, less breakages and low vibration. For hammer drills, the Heller professional SDS Masonry drill bit features a carbide design for faster drilling and reduced vibration.

HSS Drill Bits

Find specialised HSS drill bits at Toolstation, including HSS drill bits for metal and masonry. Our HSS drill bits are versatile and will fit in a wide range of power tools. The HSS metric drill bit set is ideal for steel, iron and non-ferrous metals. For additional hardness and performance, opt for the HSS Titanium and TCT masonry drill bit.

Wood Drill Bits

Purchase the right wood drill bit for your project. The DeWalt impact rated flat wood drill bit set contains drill bit with extra thick robust shanks, suitable for combi drills, drill drivers and impact drivers. The quad cutter Toolpak wood drills are ideal for cutting through beams and joists.

Cobalt Drill Bits

Cobalt drill bits are ideal for those who require strong and heat resistant drill bits. The Heller cobalt pro drill bit sets are suitable for drilling alloy, hardened steel, cast iron, titanium and stainless steel. With so many different drill bits in stock, it can be difficult to know which set will best suit the materials you're working with. Use our Drill Bit Buying Guide to make sure you're getting the very best ones for the job.

Drill Bits for Different Materials

Using the correct drill bit for the material you're drilling into helps prevent damage to both the bit and the work surface.
Masonry drill bits – designed for brick, concrete and stone when used with hammer drills.
Wood drill bits – ideal for timber, beams, boards and joinery work.
HSS drill bits – commonly used for metal, plastic and sheet materials.
Cobalt drill bits – suitable for tougher metals such as stainless steel.
Core drill bits – used when cutting larger diameter holes in masonry.
Selecting the right bit type ensures smoother drilling, cleaner holes and reduced wear on your power tools.

FAQs

How do I stop drill bits overheating?

Use steady pressure, avoid excessive speed, and apply cutting fluid when drilling metal.

How do I choose the correct drill bit size?

Match the bit diameter to the fixing or anchor size required. For wall plugs, use the size specified on the packaging.

Why are my drill bits breaking?

Common causes include excessive pressure, incorrect speed, poor alignment, or using the wrong bit type for the material.
