Tiles make for a beautiful and practical addition to any property, but to lay them correctly sometimes you need to make alterations. Whether you need to make straight, diagonal, mitre or curved cuts, tile cutters allow you to reduce tiles down to the size you need. At Toolstation, we stock a range of quality tile cutters from brands such as Vitrex and QEP, which have been designed to cut through ceramic, porcelain, marble, stone, and other materials without shattering the tile.

Electric Tile Cutters

With the power you need to cut through a range of different materials, electric tile cutters are a motorised alternative to manual cutters, which are operated by hand. They come in small, compact models with tiltable tables for angled cutting, as well as larger bench style cutters with larger bridge saws, foldable legs and wheels for portability.

Wet Tile Cutters

The ‘wet’ refers to water used to cool and lubricate the special diamond blades used to cut tiles. This reduces friction and helps the blade cut through the hardest and densest tiles, such as porcelain.

Tile Saws

While most tile cutters feature a saw, there are also larger tile cutters known as bridge saws. These are set on a raised gantry above a bench style table for more heavy-duty jobs such as natural stone and masonry. You’ll find a wide range of high-quality professional tile cutters at Toolstation at everyday low prices.

Frequently Asked Questions | FAQs

What Can You Cut with a Tile Cutter?

Modern tile cutters are suitable for a wide range of materials, including:

Ceramic tiles
Porcelain tiles
Marble and natural stone
Slate and quarry tiles
Large-format floor tiles

What Is the Best Tile Cutter for Porcelain Tiles?

Porcelain is denser than ceramic, so a heavy-duty manual cutter or electric wet cutter is usually recommended. These provide the strength and blade durability needed to cut without chipping.

Do I Need a Wet Tile Cutter?

A wet cutter is particularly useful for hard materials such as porcelain or stone, or when making multiple cuts. The water cooling system improves cut quality and reduces dust, making it ideal for tougher jobs.

Are Manual Tile Cutters Good Enough?

Manual cutters are more than sufficient for many wall and floor tiling projects, especially when working with standard ceramic tiles. They’re quick to use, easy to transport and require minimal setup.

Why Are My Tiles Chipping When I Cut Them?

Chipping can occur if the blade is worn, the tile isn’t properly supported, or too much pressure is applied. Using the correct cutter and maintaining a steady scoring motion helps achieve a cleaner break.

Can You Cut Large Format Tiles with a Standard Tile Cutter?

Large tiles often require a bridge saw or electric cutter with a wider cutting capacity to maintain accuracy and prevent cracking.

Is an Electric Tile Cutter Better Than a Manual One?

It depends on the material and workload. Electric cutters are better for dense tiles and frequent use, while manual cutters are ideal for speed and convenience on lighter materials.
