Frequently Asked Questions | FAQs
Where should a door stop be placed?
A door stopper should typically be installed on the skirting board or the floor, aligned close to the outside edge of the door (the handle side). The most important rule is to position it so that the door makes contact with the door stop before the door handle can strike and dent the plaster on the wall behind it.
What is a magnetic door stop and how does it work?
A magnetic door stop is a clever two-part system. One half (containing a strong magnet) is mounted to your floor or skirting board, and the other half (a metal strike plate) is fixed to the bottom of your door. It acts as a standard door stopper to prevent wall damage, but the magnet actively grabs the door, holding it open securely so it won't blow shut in a draft.
Are rubber door wedges effective on hard floors?
Yes. A thick rubber or PVC door wedge is highly effective on hard surfaces like laminate, wood, and tile. Because rubber naturally grips and creates friction, these temporary door stoppers will securely hold heavy doors open without sliding across or scratching your floor's finish. For the best grip, wedge it firmly under the handle-side edge of the door.
