Frequently Asked Questions | FAQs
What is the difference between a latch, lock, and bathroom door handle?
Latch door handles are designed for standard internal doors that only need to open and shut without securing. They operate a simple tubular latch for door catch. Lock handles (such as Euro or sashlock profiles) feature an additional keyhole for security, while bathroom handles include a thumbturn privacy mechanism.
Do latch door handles come with the internal latch mechanism?
Typically, latch door handles are sold as a pair along with the connecting spindle and fixing screws, but the internal tubular latch mechanism must be purchased separately. This allows you to choose the exact backset length and finish required for your specific door setup.
How do I measure a replacement latch for a door?
When replacing a latch for door hardware, you must measure the "backset." This is the specific distance from the edge of the door to the centre of the spindle hole. Standard UK backset sizes are generally 44mm (which requires a 64mm overall latch case) or 57mm (which requires a 76mm overall latch case). Ensure your new handle's backplate covers any existing holes.
